Positioned at the heart of Jacksonville’s civic life, James Weldon Johnson Park has seen significant historical shifts – from being a significant indigenous crossroads to enduring Colonial occupation and even serving as the site of Ax Handle Saturday. Today, it stands in front of key landmarks including City Hall, The Public Library, MOCA, and a JTA station. With its last major renovation dating back to 1977, the City of Jacksonville is partnering with HOOD to envision a revitalized park that references the city’s history, its dynamic citizens, and the operational + programmatic needs of a modern-day civic park.
